Thanking God You’re Mine

You’re bigger than you used to be,

much heavier to hold.

You’re growing up way too quickly,

quicker than I was ever told.

I love to watch you grow and learn,

and also want you to stay the same,

sweet, kind, goofy, cuddly,

with a spirit that can’t be tamed.

So when you wave goodbye at drop off,

no longer upset just happy to see your friends,

I’m so proud while it also aches my mama heart,

something only your kisses and hugs can mend.

So when you’re tired and in need of cuddles,

know that I’m always waiting right here,

ready to soothe, hug, love, and snuggle,

here to comfort all your tears.

Though you are heavier to hold,

and my arms may ache a bit,

my sweet boy you and this mama,

will always be the perfect fit.

So as I hold you while you fall asleep,

studying your eyes and smile for the zillionth time,

I’ll hold you a little while longer,

thanking God you’re mine.
